Korec Corso Kennel in cooperation with ZOO Tábor organizes lectures conducted by a top expert in the field of molecular genetics, Dr. Soňa Peková, PhD., who is a scientist in the field of molecular genetics, head of molecular diagnostics laboratories Vemodia and KitGen and a member of many Czech and international professional organizations.
Modern Diagnostics of Infectious Animal Diseases
Date: 14th January 2017 from 10 till 12 o´clock
Thanks to the amazing technological progress in the field of molecular biology and genetics, it is now possible to identify the source of an infectious disease even in the cases when classical laboratory methods fail. These technical deficiencies are completely overcome by the molecular microbiology discipline which can precisely define the identity of a given infectious agents and quantify its amount in the sample on the basis of DNA or RNA uniqueness. The time needed for such an identification ranges from several hours to maximum 2-3 days. Precise knowledge of the infectious agents is always the most important requirement to determine the most suitable medical treatment and the subsequent management of the patient (e.g. a quarantine).
Genetic Profiling of Purebred Animals
Date: 28th January 2017 from 10 till 12 o´clock
Due to the decades of intensive crossbreeding within certain species, biologically significant mutations were fixed in many breeds of dogs, cats, horses and other animals in hobby breeding. These mutations lead to genetically conditioned diseases, which significantly reduce the quality of life of affected animals, shorten its life after birth to several years or even months or can cause death of the animal before it is born. The aim of preventive breeding (so called “genetic passport”) is a complete genetic profiling of animals and their offspring to discover potential genetic mutations. This way, breeders can choose the partners for their animals based on their genetic profile and genetic health.
Both lectures will be held in the seat of EKOSPOL in Prague (Dukelských hrdinů 19, Prague 7) and will be followed by a discussion. Both lectures will be held in Czech language and previous reservation is necessary.
